Sushmita – A Pillar of Strength

Young Sushmita, all of 11 years old, has taken on the responsibility of helping her parents financially during these tough times due to the pandemic.

She and her family moved from Orissa to Hyderabad for work 6 years back and took admission in the RDF-Tech Mahindra Foundation partnership Government Primary School. Despite the language barrier, due to which she faced initial difficulties in adjusting, Sushmita showed a strong spirit and worked hard. She displayed a talent for drawing, was proactive in school and also helped her parents at home.

Her parents have been struggling financially since the pandemic started. Her father is an employee in a small, private company and her mother is a cook. Seeing their struggles, she took the bold initiative to start selling vegetable from home! She’s been faithfully attending her online classes each morning, helping her parents at home and selling vegetables too!

Young and brave Sushmita is a fine example for everyone on how to face life’s struggles with resilience and take responsibility to help one’s family.
