A Budding Artist

‘Beyond Textbook Education’ is an abiding philosophy in RDF. This philosophy is demonstrated time and again when we see how our schools encourage children to hone their innate talent and provide them whatever support they need to develop them.

Meghna is an RDF VAPV Junior College student who loves to draw. Her father who works for a small, private company is also an artist, so it’s easy to see where this talented girl gets her inspiration from. Right from her schools days in RDF Kalleda School, her teachers have encouraged her to draw! She loves to draw living portraits, pictures of Gods and sketches of human faces. Starting with drawing bird and animal pictures as a young girl, she was motivated to explore her skills more by her family and teachers. In this nurturing atmosphere, Meghna’s drawing skills sharpened and her artistry became more mature.

She has participated in many drawing competitions and loves gifting her work to friends, family and her teachers. “I would love to become a drawing teacher and inspire children to be creative and put these creative thoughts and ideas to draw”. We pray that Meghna realizes her dreams and inspires many budding artists, just as she has been!

We love to see how encouragement and care from teachers can bring out children’s innate talents. An abiding philosophy to develop children’s skills and creating an atmosphere of vibrancy in a school is what we strive towards and has been encourage in the 2 government schools under the partnership of Tech Mahindra Foundation and RDF.

Yashwanth, a Class 5 student in MPPS, Bahadurapally surprised everyone during the preparation of the 26th January festivities. A skit, titled ‘Amma’, on the love and affection of a mother had a female lead initially, but was given to Yashwanth, who wanted to portray and female character! His performance, right from the mannerisms of a mother, to his dress and dialogue delivery as a mother blew everyone away! Everyone was really moved by his performance and the Chief Guest, M.P.T.C. Mrs. Annapurna requested an encore and gifted Rs. 500 to the participants!

Yashwanth is full of energy and is dedicated to developing himself in every area that interests him, with sports being another field he’s exploring and doing well in. It’s lovely to see children blossom under the guidance of their teachers. It’s also a testament to teachers’ dedication and we are proud of such a culture being established in the school, with the support of the school management.

Sailing towards your Goals

15 year old T. Ajay of Kalleda School has put his nose to the grindstone and worked extremely hard to get admission in Hakimpet Sports School. A student in the school from Class 1 – 4, he performed very well in sports, especially Kho-Kho and Athletics. The schools’ Physical Education Teacher noticed his interest and prowess and encouraged him.

With the support of the management and PET, Ajay participated in many competitions and eventually was selected in the Hakimpet  Sports School. While he is no longer a part of RDF, we continue to follow the progress of our alumni closely.

His main event in the school in ‘Sailing’. He participated in the International Junior ‘Sailing’ competition in Chennai and came in 6th place! We love to share stories like these with our current students to help them see the power of discipline, dedication and determination. Stories like Ajay’s provide tremendous inspiration to our rural children who can then believe that goals are achievable and dreams are possible. It also allows the local community to understand that there is more to education than academics and that talent and building skill in other areas can also help students achieve success.

Dancing towards your Dreams!

Harsh is an alumnus of Redlawada School. From the time he was in school, he was passionate about dancing.Whenever he got the opportunity, he would showcase his dance skills. He was encouraged by his teachers to keep building his skills which helped immensely with his confidence and motivated him to keep practising and improving.

Recently, he formed a ‘Kolatam’ group in Redlawada village. This is a traditional, rural dance form that he wants to propagate. He has inspired many local youngsters to join him and is providing dance coaching to them. His hard work is paying off when he won an Appreciation Certificate at a District level Kolatam competition.

His dream is to reach new heights of dancing and encourage local talent.

He acknowledges the role played by RDF in reaching for his dancing goals since RDF focuses on developing children’s innate talent, in addition to academics.

His family is very happy at how his life is shaping up and is proud of his achievements. Other students are inspired by his passion, his achievements and his helping boost new talent.

We are so proud of Harsh for not only his personal accomplishment, but that he’s also devoting time and energy to help others improve their skills and reach for their dreams

In Form thanks to Infor!

RDF children come from economically challenged families in rural Telangana. Therefore, we are passionate about provide them a well rounded and superior quality of education with the help of local teachers who are trained well to guide and coach students and create a nurturing environment in all our schools.

A lot of encouragement and mentorship comes from our partners, such as Infor, a leading IT MNC. Infor has been instrumental in raising funds to construct Rollakal School and its management and employees have helped significantly in its development – in infrastructure, academics and life skills! Infor invited students of Class 9 & 10 from Rollakal School to visit their Hyderabad Head Office and took care of all travel and accommodation expenses.

They conducted workshops on development of communication skills, how to perform better academically and even took the children on a Hyderabad tour to Salarjung Museum, Birla Planetarium, Birla Science Centre and Birla Temple! The kids were thrilled with the guided tour and engaged attentively in the campus sessions. The employee volunteers motivated the children to work hard and explained what they need to do in order to procure employment in Infor! This kind of ‘how to’ knowledge really clarifies things for the kids, allowing them to put goals in place and work towards them.

The RDF family sincerely Mr. Sai Reddy, Mr. Kiran Addala and all Infor employees for  giving this wonderful opportunity to the children!

On Your Marks!

Sporting activities have got a new angle at Matendla School.  A new perspective has been brought in through the ‘Marks for Sports’ programme that was introduced by RDF Director, Mr. Andrian Kennedy. The aim is to encourage children to improve their sports skills by treating sports as a regular subject and allotting marks.

Marks for Sports is a 5 star fitness programme. It has been introduced and implemented in Matendla School before being taken to the other schools. The process was started by testing the students in 5 categories viz. Shuttle Run, Toe Touch, Standing Jump, 9 Minute Run and Speed (50 metres) Run. Student performances are recorded and a star rating system is assigned for each test – the stars are equivalent to the performance based scores in the tests. Any student who doesn’t qualify can attempt the test again in the next academic year.

The students are enjoying the new system and are pushing themselves to perform better. It is hoped that not only will the students improve their sporting skills and enhance their performance, but that they will receive the benefits of taking up sporting activities such as improved coordination, flexibility, stamina etc, regardless of their marks.

This is yet another way to engage our students productively and gives them an avenue to participate in interesting activities to develop their skills. We are glad that they have taken to this programme and are thoroughly enjoying themselves!
